McLaren say it is unknown when Alonso will return

According to a report, the McLaren team have admitted that "it is not known exactly why the accident occurred." This is of course referring to the accident that Fernando Alonso had during testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. The team has also said that "it will not be up to us to decide when he will return to the cockpit."

Before Alonso can return to his seat he will need to be cleared by his doctors as well as pass FIA tests. Until Alonso returns, Kevin Magnussen will fill in for him at McLaren.

Even though McLaren is denying they are not hiding anything it is very difficult to believe that in this case. There has been much speculation about what has happened during the crash that it has been difficult to separate what could have possibly happened to what is fiction. From knowning that Alonso has been in the gym and saying that he is fit it is also difficult to believe that the team does not have an estimation about when he will return.

I think that Alonso got shocked by a battery and knocked unconscious before the accident but again this is only speculation. We will probably never know what actually happened but hopefully the team does and can avoid the same situation occurring in the future.

What do you think happened to Alonso in his testing accident? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below. Also to read the full McLaren statement, visit the link at the beginning.
